Summary of Urban Citizen Forestry Programs

A summary of 22 citizen forestry programs in the US.

A directory of representative Citizen Forester (or TreeKeeper) programs in communities across the US.  It’s not an exhaustive list, but is a representative cross-section of different geographic regions and city sizes.  Prepared to support USDA FS on the (National) Citizen Science team.

Many of these are run by urban forest councils and although some programs have been in existence for many years, some were assembled to help states and cities in response to state and local budget cuts to urban forestry programs.  These are examples of partner groups establishing volunteer programs where a clear need was found.

Such a summary list might inspire other communities to establish their own programs.  There is much detail here to assist communities with development of similar programs.
