Responsible for conducting the urban forestry program in the Alamo Region.
Primary duties include activities that assist in the development of professionally-based inventories, resource assessments and/or management plans; activities that assist with the establishment of professional staffing; activities that assist with tree ordinance development and review; and activities that assist with the establishment of an advocacy/advisory organization and/or provide ongoing consultation with an existing organization to help improve their effectiveness. Includes technical assistance to local governments and non-profits on program development, tree planting, protection and care; promoting volunteerism and assisting local cooperators with volunteer recruitment and training; monitoring performance of grant projects; promoting urban forestry on the local level through various presentations and through media releases, demonstrations, exhibits and publications; responding to requests for information from the general public. Secondary duties include providing technical program support to the state Forest Stewardship Program in the region. Duties will include but not be limited to: the development and delivery of public environmental education and outreach programs; promotion of public, private, and inter-agency cooperative partnerships; and providing a source for technical and on-site program assistance to private landowners. A portion of this positions time will also involve oak wilt suppression through technical assistance to landowners.
