Veteran Tree Management Handbook

A handbook for managing veteran trees published by the agency English Nature.

"Veteran Trees are amazing. They contain a wealth of wildlife and are a link to the past world of medieval deer parks and commoners’ grazing. As part of the Veteran Tree Initiative led by English Nature, Helen Read was commissioned to pull together current experience and best practice in the management of old pollards and other veterans. This handbook will be of value to anyone who has an interest in or needs to manage old trees." [from Website]

English Nature is a United Kingdom government agency set up by the Environment Protection Act 1990 and funded by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

In 2007, English Nature, the environment activities of the Rural Development Service and the Countryside Agency’s Landscape, Access and Recreation Division "will be united in a single body with responsibility for enhancing biodiversity and our landscapes and wildlife in rural, urban, coastal and marine areas; promoting access, recreation and public well-being, and contributing to the way natural resources are managed – so they can be enjoyed now and for future generations."
