Philadelphia's Urban Forest
An assessment of trees in Philadelphia reveals that the city has approximately two million trees with canopies that cover 21.6% of the area. Future canopy projections are highly sensitive to growth and mortality rates and future tree establishment is necessary to sustain environmental benefits over the long term. Management strategies are suggested for maximizing air quality and carbon benefits from urban trees.
