Involvement of Women and Minorities in the Urban Forestry Profession

"In a nationwide U.S. study, we found that 10% of urbanforestry professionals were women and 5% minorities. Women generallywere younger, better educated, and had less time in their professionthan white males, and they most often held public or private nonprofitpositions. Minorities were older and less educated than women or whitemales. Compared to white males, there was a considerably higherproportion of minorities and a lower proportion of females in higherincome categories (above US$50,000 per year). We describe theprofession’s demographics and discuss reasons for and implications of arelative lack of diversity in this profession." [Abstract] 8-pages 8.5" x 11"
