This fact sheet describes an insect that reduces the vitality of old dogwood trees and kills younger ones. Symptoms of the infestation include bore holes with gall-like structures around them. The best methods of control are prevention of wounds and stress during dry seasons. Other trees affected by the borer include cherries, apples, oaks, and willows.
