This webpage describes the symptoms, life cycle, and control methods of the serious disease caused by the fungus Dibotryonmorbosum.
Symptoms include greenish to light brown galls that turn black and harden as they age. The resulting knot can kill the branch as well as become an entrance for other fungi. Chemical control must be adjusted depending on the weather.
