The effects of soil aeration equipment on tree growth

Reference Type
Conference Proceedings (Chapter)

"Urban soils are prone to soil compaction primarily due to pedestrian and vehicular traffic, and construction activities. Compaction can be a significant limiting factor for plant growth due to the adverse effects on root development. Effective treatments to alleviate soil compaction on existing trees must rapidly modify soil bulk density without causing significant root disturbance. The Grow Gun and Terralift are two machines developed in recent years to meet these criteria. Previous studies of these machines have focused on operation and effects on the soil (2). The second and final phase of our study of aeration equipment focuses on the long term growth response of trees treated with soil aeration machines and conventional soil compaction treatments."
