Integrating energy conserving landscaping into low-income housing projects

Reference Type
Conference Proceedings (Chapter)

This paper describes several recent energy conservation landscape projects carried out with Habitat for Humanity in South Florida. [UMN]

"Environmentalists/tree-activists are sometimes viewed as being more concerned with plants and animals than with people. An urban forestry program which uses energy-conserving landscaping in low-cost housing projects is a particularly effective way to improve the quality of life for low-income families. Local and global pollution can be significantly reduced while utility bills are decreased and urban aesthetics are increased. This paper describes several recent energy conservation landscape projects carried out with Habitat for Humanity in South Florida." [Abstract]
