Mobilizing the Web for Urban and Community Forestry Education (03-DG-11244225-160)
03-DG-11244225-160
This project contains a website in association with Project Learning Tree that provides online urban and community forestry resources for educators and students.
The Urban and Community Forestry Education Resource website is a new component of Project Learning Tree (PLT) that provides educators and their students with online urban and community forestry resources that include information and education about the social, economic, and ecological values of urban and community forests.
This resource, found at http://www.plt.org/cms/urbanforestry/ lists, organizes, provides an annotated bibliography for, and links to websites of urban and community forestry organizations and similar organizations relevant to activities in PLT's dynamic PreK-12 environmental education curriculum.
The site provides educators with a quick and ready resource for delivering better urban and community forestry education and to continue meeting the education standards they must address daily. Likewise, it increases student exposure to forestry issues, forestry organizations, and forestry career opportunities.
Project Learning Tree is one of the most widely used environmental education programs in the United States and abroad and is connected to a half a million educators and their students. Many of the activities in the PLT guides have direct relevance to urban and community forestry issues, and by connecting educators and students to relevant websites and organizations, these activities have new breadth, their teaching can be greatly enriched, and students are able to draw on a new wealth of diverse web resources and innovative learning tools.
