Community Forestry CPR-Climate Prepardness and Response (13-R6-IN292-13)

Grant Number
13-R6-IN292-13
King County, Washington, in partnership with the National Wildlife Federation (NWF), proposes to develop and implement a model"Community Forestry CPR - Climate Preparedness and Response" Program which will incentivize, through decreased property taxes, private landowners to maximize the climate change mitigation and adaptation benefits of their lands. The NWF will use its linkages with governments, landowner groups and land trusts to disseminate the model program to a broad range of entities to help develop programs to incentivize and maximize the climate change benefit of private lands across the country.
The products of this project wi II resu It in a specific, quantified list of best practices that landowners can do to maximize the climate benefit of their lands, tools to assess the potentiaI and identify the best practices for a specific sites, and protocols to incorporate these actions into existing government incentive programs such as King County's Public Benefit Rating System program. Importantly, many of the tools that are generated by this program will also be directly usable by any interested landowner; the NWF will also provide outreach to these individuals through its membership and related programs.
