Dr. Lucy Bradley will discuss tree protection and damage mitigation in pm. Governor Martin Building at the NC State Fairgrounds in Raleigh. The focus of the workshop will be on symptomology, the use of signs and symptoms to identify the causal agent of a plant problem. The basic biology and management options for several key pests will be discussed. This will include chemical and non-chemical control options. In addition to insect pests, beneficial biological control agents will be identified. Methods of distinguishing beneficial insects from pests will be presented. The role of natural enemies in reducing pest populations will be discussed. Methods for enhancing the numbers and activity of natural enemies in the landscapes will be reviewed. Dr. Lucy Bradley will discuss prevention, management and treatment of construction damage from the tree’s perspective.  She will also look at the biology behind recommendations for minimizing contruction impact on roots, trunks and overall tree health.Outdoor demonstration and hands-on portions relevant to the themes and topics are planned.
